Bio

Bailey Triggs is a fine artist from West Palm Beach, Florida who is currently living and working in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Her heavily textured work delves into the emotional and material aspects of memory, deeply influenced by her personal experiences with dementia in her family and the uncertainty of her own future. Her practice is an exploration of how we hold onto the past, both through the physicality of objects and the subjective nature of recollection.

Artist Statement

I cut, collage, sculpt, assemble, and paint using pieces of old artworks, restaurant paper waste, used books, receipts, fabrics from old clothing, and other recycled materials. Through this process and through extensive research, I explore the memories of my home state of Florida with an emphasis on LGBTQ+ Floridians. I connect the discarded material to my discarded community, paying homage to both. Using photo references from archives such as the Florida Memory Project, personal and family photographs, the Stonewall Museum, and the LGBTQ History Museum of Central Florida, I make paintings that serve as altars to stop and reflect on our shared history. Bright colors and heavy texture adds an immersive quality, making memories tangible and inviting interaction. The interplay between materiality and the emotional weight of history creates an experience that invites viewers to engage with their own personal memories.
